Data Protection And Fraud And Scam Prevention

By Robert Velasquez

Data protection involves measures put across to ensure that, information of an individual is stored in a computer is properly protected from unnecessary access and loss. If data is not properly protected then it can be lost through attacks from viruses or malicious people can steal it. Various measures have therefore been put in place to ensure that data is properly protected to avoid all the glitches brought about by its improper shielding.

Backing up information often and regularly is the number one measure in information shielding to prevent information loss. Before you decide on backing up information, you have to know the type of information that you deal with and the sensitivity associated with each type. It is recommended that one ensures he or she has enough space on an external media for backing up all information in the computer.

Back up is suggested at all times to avoid losing lots of information in case of any loss. All operating systems have a backup utility that assist in the backing up process. In addition, there exist many free downloadable programs used in information shielding.

Creating passwords on documents is another in information shielding strategy. This simply means that one has to enter a certain password before he or she gets permission to view the contents of a document. This is necessary where information being handled is sensitive and requires some form of confidentiality.

Always scan removable media like flash disks before inserting them into your computer. These devices might contain dangerous viruses that can be disastrous to your files and other documents. Ensure that your computer has an up-to-date antivirus by updating it each other day to efficiently scan these removable media.

Keeping copies of your backed-up information away from your house is another in information shielding strategy. This is helpful as it prevents loss of both the original and backed up information in case of a fire break out or burglary. Therefore, if your original information is in a computer in the house, the backed up information should be in a safe place away from the house.

Creating files and folders permissions is another data protection strategy. This strategy is meant to allow a certain group of people to have access to certain files and folders while at the same time denying another group of people access to the same files and folders. These permissions allow individuals to write, read and execute the various files and folders.
