Details On The Hard Disk

By Peter Garrilloid

You are the kind of person that dedicates most of your time in front of you PC, being online, more than any device in your home. Because of this you should learn more about the computer. And what better way to learn about the computer than learning about one of its more important parts - the hard disk drive.

The hard disk drive is actually one of the many data storage devices available today. It is more particularly made to hold and obtain information using the really fast discs that are coated with magnets. Hard disks are called hard disks because of the hard platter that's in the equipment. It was invented in the year 1950 by IBM as backup storage equipment for computers. The very first hard disks were extremely huge with a diameter of twenty inches with a capacity of just a few megabytes. Ever since their creation, the hard disk has went through a lot of changes. But even with all the changes, there are a few things about the hard disk that haven't changed.

One of these things is the amazing capacity of the hard disk which is measured in unit prefixes. Apart from that hard disks are also known to perform well and are measured by the amount of time it takes to move the heads to a file and the time it takes for the file to move under its head and also the rate by which the file is transferred. Also another quality of the hard disk is that it can still function even when its power is off. Yet another quality is that the hard disk drive can function without any sequence; you can randomly access information. Hard disk can also help back-up important information that you have in your computer or laptop.

Even with all these qualities, the hard disk's lead in the computer world is still endangered because of the emergence of the flash memory. But, there's really no cause for any alarm because many computer manufacturers still see the indispensable importance of the device.

Well that's all you need to learn about the hard disk drive which would somehow make you more oriented with the computer you face every day.
