Four Tips On Netbook Care You Can Use Today

By Kirk Morgan

Want to get the most out of your netbook? If so, some basic care on your part is essential. People often get used to the reduced performance of their computer and simply make do with any issues they encounter. But like all machines, some preventative maintenance on your part goes a long way on extending it's lifetime and keeping it functioning like new. This article will discuss four basic care tips for your netbook.

1.) Be very careful when cleaning dirt off the screen. Use a moist cloth rather than paper towels because paper products contain abrasives that can leave scratches on the screen. Let the moisture in the cloth loosen the dirt rather than trying to rub it off since this will cause the dirt to scratch the screen. The cloth should not be soaking wet as it may drip water into the keys. Distilled water works best because it won't leave spots.

2.) Keep your operating system running smoothly by using a disk defragmenter and running a disk check. The disk defragmenter rearranges and consolidates your files so that they can be accessed more quickly thus speeding up your computer. A disk check scans the hard drive and files for anomalies that may cause problems. Doing this is like tuning up the engine in your car. Ignore this and your system will slow down over time and may be become prone to crashing.

3.) Have you ever had a key on your keyboard stick? Having a problem key that requires you to hit it extra hard is annoying and slows down your typing. One trick you can try is to tip your netbook on it's side and quickly press the sticking key in and out. This causes the particle underneath the problem key to dislodge and allows gravity to pull it somewhere else. Make sure there are no other keys downhill from the sticking key. Otherwise the particle may lodge itself under one of them.

4.) Your netbook stays cool with the use of internal fans. Make sure you know where the fan ports are located so that you can avoid blocking them by accident. Otherwise this will cause overheating which can damage and/or reduce the life of your computer. The warmer your working environment, the less tolerant your machine will be to blocked fan ports.

Those who wait until their netbooks are having problems before giving them proper attention usually are the ones who only get a couple of years out of their machines if even that. You can be one of the owners whose computer lasts for four or five years if proper care and maintenance becomes a habit.
