By Jessica White

World of Warcraft is a video game structured to help people to think in a better way. In this game, performance is identified terms of points earned through combat and experience, and players accumulate it by performing various activities. The challenges increase as you move up in levels.

When one accumulates these points, they advance to other levels in the game. The challenge and degree of complexity both increase dramatically as once advances across levels. The number of experience points which one needs to advance also increases.

With experience, one becomes skilled at leveraging the available resources in the game. They're therefore able to learn and advance faster even as the challenges become more daunting. In contrast to diminishing returns commonly encountered in business, players here increase returns to learning.

Similar to other great games developed, it is usually not easy to find the relevance of this game to individuals working in an office setting. World of Warcraft comes in handy because it creates a great learning platform. Most of the techniques used in the video game could help Managers to improve performance in their own companies. WoW is structured in a way that allows any person to sign up and gain a sense of accomplishment. Although the first levels tasks are pretty easy, newbies quickly learn to be creative and adapt their technique to performance challenges.

WoW, also gives players a way to determine performance in form of levels and experience points. It also enables them make comparisons with their allies in various dimensions or realms, like they call it. Feedback is great to everyone, not just individuals playing.

World of Warcraft is also designed to continually challenge a player so that they develop fresh skills. It's hard for one to encounter boredom and complacency. However, the challenges are also calibrated thoughtfully to match the capabilities of players so as to avoid frustration. This approach can be adopted in a corporate entity so as to spur innovation among the employees.
