Common Problems With Home PCs

By Byron Jonas

There are a great number of common problems with home PCs which people can come across. The amount of time which people use their computers - whether they are desktops or laptops - during the average day indicates that within good time they are likely to encounter difficulties.

One of the main difficulties which people usually report that go wrong with their computers is a drastic slowing down of response and start up times the older the technology gets. Sadly, this is (in part) an unavoidable fact of this technology. It becomes slower in reaction as it becomes more clogged up with files. This is often because the hard drive becomes more full with fragmented files. People can counteract this by using the disk fragmenting tool on their computer, which will have a small effect.

However, it can also slow in speed because of the wear and tear on the components within the casing. This is unavoidable. It happens in similar pieces of machinery. People would not expect the inner workings of their car to tarnish in some shape or form throughout use, so it is unrealistic to not expect the same thing to happen to more fragile, often more regularly used computer components.

Moreover, a computer can be significantly slowed because it can be infected. People who use the internet - and particularly email - regularly can cause people to contract viruses on their computers. This is not an uncommon thing to happen.

People can try and counteract this by keeping their computer covered. This happens by installing anti virus programs, including those made by AVG, McAfee and Norton. Keeping these regularly updated and scanning them constantly is vital to stop viruses running riot over a machine.

There can also be difficulties with error messages. This happens as people install and uninstall programs and files on their computer. These will rewrite the registry, which is an important part of the way a PC runs. However, it can become corrupted, which causes small scale difficulties. These are nothing to worry about.

Luckily, almost all of the problems with home PCs outlined above (save for the ageing of components) can be rectified. People can use tools to counteract the common difficulties which people find with their desktops and laptops. However, if a home user cannot fix these things, they can try and avail themselves of the skill of a professional computer repair shop.
