Business Semi-Rugged Systems

By Allyson Westcot

Not everyone needs a fully-rugged system, though they may need something slightly harder than business class. That's where semi-rugged systems come in. They're built to meet the requirements of individuals that need something more durable than standard or business-rugged systems, but who do not need the more extreme protections offered by full-rugged models. This allows users to get the protection they require without having to settle for something a little less, or without needing to pay much more for features that they won't really rely on.

Fully-rugged systems are good for the most intense circumstances. If you consider the fully-rugged Panasonic Toughbooks are suitable for military use in mobile, hazardous circumstances, you can see why many individuals will never need a P. C. quite that sturdy. The price tag difference between semi-rugged and full models can be a lot depending on the precise PC, so selecting the one that's truly best could be a great budgeting decision.

Semi-rugged systems still have some similar features such as shock mounting to defend the drive in case the PC is dropped or knocked about, and a case made from a magnesium alloy for more protection. These features help in making the PCs acceptable for the user who is mobile much of the time.

Spill-proofing so that somebody on a tight schedule who spills coffee or another drink into the keyboard will not short the computer out, and things like port covers so someone that gets caught dashing through the rain will still be protected, make these models perfect for those who spend some more time in their autos or the field than at their desks.

Semi-rugged systems simply let folks who use their PCs in a changing environment get a model that's designed for that sort of use without needing to pay more for one that's military-grade and engineered to withstand things somebody with a mobile office will generally never need.
