Troubleshooting a Laptop PC Battery Charger Problem

By Gilang Aruga

It often occurs that a laptop computer charger fails in charging the portable computer as anticipated. This can be a reason for concern to the portable computer owner and particularly if they need to use the portable at the time. The majority of the times the failure of the charger isn't a significant problem and can be diagnosed and corrected simply. This means that before one writes off their charger, it is always advisable to confirm that it is truly the charger that's dysfunctional.

Routinely, one will always know when the charger is working on connection of the laptop to the Mains supply thru the charger. This is typically through an indicator light on the portable computer that keeps flashing. It could also be a change in the screen brightness with the connection or disconnection of the charger from the laptop PC or the disappearance of the battery icon on connection. All these will normally denote a correctly working charger for laptop battery.

If all these signals fail to show on connection, then the charger isn't working and some inquiry into the cause of failure is obligatory. The first logical step is to check the Mains socket to guarantee the fuse at the Mains pug is properly fixed. The aim is to dump that as the reason behind the difficulty before going further. Make sure that the plug wires are well fastened within the plug. The very next step will be to check the rope that comes between the mains supply and the charger itself. Ensure that the connections are tight and that there's no damage that may lead to poor connection. Remember to inspect the socket that fits into the charger for any damage. If required, replace the rope.

When you're thru with the twine, the step after that is checking the charger itself. Keep an eye open for the indicator green light that is meant to indicate the charger is working. If the light does not show when you connect the charger to the mains supply, then the charger is faulty. If the charger's light is on upon connecting to the mains, then move to the lead wire connecting the charger to the laptop computer. Check the lead wire keenly for any damage that might be causing loose connection. It is actually possible to find the indicator light on the laptop PC coming off and on on manipulation of the wire. If that happens, then the wire could be damaged internally and will have to be replaced.

It is critical to understand the laptop battery charger rarely fails and in truth should outlive the laptop. That's why it is really important to do a thorough inspection of all of the elements indicated before thinking about replacement. But if all of the other areas are okay, a replacement charger could be the sole solution to your problem.
