Bang For Your Buck$ - Custom Headphones Review

By Alexander Cox

I have watched action movies, played the latest CoD Black Ops and many other games and listen to a wide variety of music and have really found no weak spot as far as sound depth. They exceed any wired headphones I have used for any of the same activities. It looks far better than the RS 120s or 130s. If you've got to look at them all the time then they should look good and these do. In a word I did not like it. You could tell it was trying to distill the 5.1 mixes down to 2 channels & frankly it did not do a good job. There are a lot of controls that take some getting used to, but once you learn where the controls are it's easy to adjust the volume, etc. These are over the ear, open style with velour pads which makes for very comfortable listening.

However, there are a few things that really frustrate me about these cans. The much mentioned volume buttons that are too small are just one. They are open air design like the 180's and have very excellent sound quality. That is what made me decided to go with Sennheiser when I was looking for wireless headphones. The biggest plus for the Sennheiser is construction. The pioneers broke where the yoke holds the individual cans the head strap. The $50 pair the same company sells is nice, and great for a work headset, but this is great for watching your movies at home. After listening to these, the only reason you will not have a pair for work and home *might* be the price - love them.

My ears also hurt after a short time due to the foam ear pads. After more research I decided to give the RS180 a try. And if you don't want to spend a fortune for 7.1 surround sound, this might be an excellent option. The only downside is they can get a little warm (would not exercise with them on, for instance). After breaking them in for a couple of days, they fit my head like a large comfortable head glove. I've worn them already for hours on end with very little ear fatigue.

The headphones presented a very wide soundstage with ample presence but not too much "air". As I stated above these are very warm sounding headphones.

I live in an apartment building, so can't watch TV or listen to music very loudly without disturbing my neighbors. I've been waiting for some time to buy some quality wireless headphones that are lossless and affordable.

It is sufficient for my needs. Lastly, the 180's are as comfortable to wear as the 130's.
