Thrilled With My Purchase - Canon Powershot Digital Camera Critique

By Jacob Bailey

Pictures got deleted either when the camera ran out of batteries or when the battery got taken out.

The 'manual' is stored in the camera, which was new to me, but it wasn't difficult to figure out. All in all, I like that better because it saves resources, as well as the added benefit of a 'tutorial' scenario where the user can practice different shooting modes and methods, etc. so I just got this one and Olympus came a long way with their products because the 6020 is definitely the only camera I'm going to be using from now on, I have been through two point-and-click cameras in the last few years, this one is by far the best. It is smaller and lighter, and I like doesn't have the telescoping lens sticking out the front. I went to Florida for a while and was using a Canon. It was ok but definitely not waterproof! What can I say, a point and shoot camera with a dedicated help button says a lot. There are certainly a great number of options and modes to choose from.

It locked up wile loading and shut down but the computer still showed it as installing so I had to restart my computer, did the same thing after restart. I went from taking pictures on my Droid to this little baby so it was quite the jump. This camera has got to be the most unintuitive point and shoot I've ever seen or used. I don't even care about the image quality, even if it were outstanding, the interface and poor design would steer me away. Select the option that allows you to talk to a person! The tech support number [hard to find on the website] is 888-553-4448. I've owned about 5 point and shoot cameras and 2 SLRs. I think the majority of the bad reviews is caused by the average users basic knowledge of a camera, most people have no idea what half the settings are, or what they mean, so the bad picture quality, is their own fault.

This is just something to help you out if you buy one. All of this was bought for $180. I did take about 200 shots that were of a comparable quality to the 720, I have not really checked out closely from the memory card. The 1st time I took it in snorkeling at surface level, I got 1 picture and the controls/screen went haywire. We haven't gone yet, but have used it around the house. It is good so far.

My girlfriend and I took a month long vacation in Nicaragua. We both bought stylus tough series cameras.

BTW, I'm a pro (over 40 years advertising, catalog and editorial) so a good test for me of a point and shoot is just that--point and shoot! Spend a few minutes fresh out of the box with the camera, running through menu selections and settings, and just use the camera simply and easily.

I would recommend it to anyone. I own an Olympus Stylus 720sw that has been awesome.
