21 Warning Signs You Need More Information On Printing

By Paul Tompson

While you may be aware of inkjet printers and ink cartridges, you might not be so familiar with laser printers and their associated toner cartridges. Unlike liquid ink, toner is a dry powder. For laser printers, the printing process begins with by sending an electric current through the toner, which causes it to become stuck to the printer drum. Then, the printer drum gets pressed to the paper, where is becomes aligned in a pattern that allows for the printed image to be seen. Then, the printer will use a hot laser to melt the arranged toner onto the paper, which seals the image permanently. Printing in black and white is the standard method for using toner cartridges, though you can sometimes find colored cartridges.

There is a big business sector springing up around the replacement of toner cartridges. This post will focus on a couple of ways that people can replace their toner cartridges. The different methods will all have their benefits and quirks.

Printer manufacturers generally recommend using the toner cartridges that they make. The print quality of your documents will supposedly be the best under this method. Manufacturer cartridges are going to cost you a lot more money than other methods, however. In general, though, the truth is that the cartridges you get from a manufacturer are not going to have any significant variance in quality from any other kind of toner cartridge replacement.

Many companies offer alternative cartridges that will work in your laser printer; these are called compatible cartridges. For the most part, these kind of cartridges are made not by a name-brand company, but by a generic printer cartridge company. The manufacturers of compatible toner cartridges will charge quite a bit less than the same cartridge made by the printer companies. Fortunately, you will not be canceling your printer warranty by using these kinds of toner cartridges. This makes compatible toner cartridges a great alternative to using manufacturer's cartridges.

For the more environmentally-minded person, a recycled cartridge is a great option for when the toner in the cartridge runs out. The cartridges get sent back to the manufacturer when they are empty, and these companies will clean out the cartridges and fill them with new toner. The quality of the cartridges is then inspected before being sent back to the consumer. You would be correct in assuming that this method of replacing cartridges is quite affordable. Anyone who cares for the environment will also enjoy the fact that they are not using new resources to get a new cartridge.
