My Secret To Crafting a Life Of Better Ink

By Daniel Catoire

Replacing the Ink Cartridge in Your Printer

Being able to change the cartridges on one's inkjet printer or laser printer is a very important skill to have, since most people have printers these days. Cartridges exist for every kind of printer or device on the market, so you shouldn't have much trouble finding the right kind of cartridge.

The best way to save money is to go with off-brand, "compatible" cartridges for your printer. These third-party cartridges will typically have a brand name on them that differs from that of your printer. Refillable cartridges are another great way to save some money. When you run out of ink or toner, you'll be unable to print; in this article we'll discuss how to get yourself back up and running. To make absolutely sure that you are performing the replacement properly, be sure to look at your user manual for the printer you have.

Replacing Your Ink Cartridge

Before you begin, make sure your printer is powered on. First, open up the front. Opening the cover automatically moves your ink cartridge from its normal position to a position where you can remove the cartridge. A color printer will usually have two cartridges installed, rather than the single cartridge for black-and-white printers. An inkjet cartridge will easily slip into the carrier that is contained inside.

Many modern cartridge carriers will also need to be flipped up in order to get at the cartridge. When a printer has more than one cartridge, only one cartridge should be completely replaced before starting on another. Remove the old cartridge by pulling it out of its holder. Next, pull the new cartridge out of its protective covering. There will be tape over the print head of your cartridge, and you should take it off without actually touch the head. Once you've put the new cartridge into place, you can go ahead and close the door. Continue this process until you've replaced all the cartridges you need to.

What to Do After You've Finished Changing the Cartridge

After replacing your cartridge, you should make sure that you get rid of the old cartridge in the right way. There are ways of recycling your old cartridges, and many companies will want the cartridge so they can refill it. Prior to going through with any action, though, it is imperative that you investigate your local and regional laws to make sure you won't be damaging the environment by disposing of your cartridges in a particular way. There is little more than that to replacing your cartridges in whatever kind of inkjet printer you have; it's actually a very easy process.
