White Hat Hackers - How To Outsmart Illegal Hackers

By Aaron Kato

Computer hacking endangers not only private individuals and organisations, but also government groups. To hack a computer means to manipulate the ordinary behaviour of networks and systems. There's not much organisations can be if their highly guarded secrets and formulas, confidential information, and sensitive financial data are swiped from their system. The lost of such information can render them powerless. Indeed, it is a really serious problem. That's why it's imperative for them to closely guard their information system and defend it against hackers. And the only way that they can do so is by employing another hacker.

It may look a foolish plan given that organisations want to keep hackers out of their system in the first place. But there's indisputable wisdom in hiring hackers to protect their IT fort. They need somebody who can outsmart hackers. And to do that, that someone should know how hackers think and work. That is why only another hacker can accomplish the job. They penetrate an information system so they know how others do it. And once that they've figured out where and how hackers might break into the system, they can fortify and improve its security measures.

Also known as white hat, ethical hackers are employed by companies that give them the authorisation to break through their software system or database. They are masters in penetration testing, making sure that the information system of an organisation is protected. They do vulnerability testing regularly because hackers constantly find new ways to penetrate information systems. Ethical hackers also utilise the same methods illegal hackers utilise. This way, they can look for and fix the flaws of a computer security.

A organisation's employed hacker not only has consent to infiltrate the company's systems, but also has the certification to support his abilities. Ethical hackers employed by organisations have Ethical Hacker (CEH) certification, which they have earned by going through 5 days of intensive training and testing. But before they can sign up for the course, they must also have at least two years experience in computer information security.

Ethical hacking is only legal and moral if done with permission from the organisation that owns the information system being hacked. If you want to become an ethical hacker, you can sign up in computer schools that offer Certified Ethical Hacker classes. Take other computer courses before starting the CEH course to enhance your IT know-how. You can take Microsoft Office courses first and enrol in ITIL training later.
