Thanks A Lot For This Fantastic Product - Cheap Netbook Review

By Samantha Smith

Hopefully Amazon will process a return. I saw nothing in Amazon's description which indicated that there are two models, but if you check Toshiba's site, you will see one model with a "(D3)" appended, and one without. I was shocked at how long it can stay on without charging it up.

I had no problems setting it up (although I deleted several unwanted programs that were pre-installed - Norton for example, went with a better security package) which, including configuration took less than 30 minutes. I did install 2g memory right off the bat.

I'd buy it again if I had the chance. I had very much been wanting a netbook for some time so when my laptop's hard drive failed, I bought this at the local CompUSA.

Even with the 6-cell, the NB505-N508BL easily fits in any 10.1" netbook sleeve. I'm a sucker for sub $250 netbooks. They give you 3 USB ports, as well as sound and mic ports; the sound is excellent through my Apple earbuds. I can't believe some of you complained about this unit only having one speaker; if it had two it would NOT sound that much better. It worked right out of the box. Orange color looks great. I also love that even though this laptop is small, the keyboard is full size. Overall, it is a great on-the-go laptop, especially for a college student.

I even provided a LINK to them to re-iterate the issue. They looked at the link with me while online, and then said, "Well we don't know about it."

Or, at least, use "msconfig" to stop the gazillion processes that run at startup. By doing so, it's actually pretty speedy. The unit has three USB ports as well as an SD card reader for all your photographic and peripheral needs. The keyboard is just what I have been looking for. The computer feels very solid, has a nice rubbery top that doesn't fingerprint (not really apparent in the pictures) and a VERY nice keyboard that is better than lots of regular laptops! RAM size could be upgraded so we bought a 2 GB card for $15.00 (non-Toshiba brand from Amazon) which worked fine and sped it up even more. Windows 7 can work on one gig but from my experience you need at least two gigs for it to really operate efficiently. I upgraded from 1 to 2 gigs and the difference is immediately noticeable. I love the look of the netbook and it was easy to set up right out of the box. I upgraded the memory as was recommended in several other reviews.
